Hostel Life

BIG MEDIABOX
As part of Film-Its project 'Straight into Film' six groups of young offenders and those at risk of offending made their own films. Working with professionals in the film industry, the young people controlled the whole filmmaking process, from deciding on the content to shooting and editing the final film and organising its distribution.

This film begins with two young people expressing their frustration at the stereotypes and negative perceptions of young people living in hostel accommodation and their desire for people to have a greater understanding of their lives.  The film then goes into a powerful and upbeat rap song (written & performed by the young people) in which they try to emphasize the positive aspects of their lives and negate some of the stereotypes.

Lauren, who worked on Hostel Life, said, “It’s been a great experience, I’ve had a great time and hope that in the future I can use the skills I’ve learnt.”
