YourFilm09 puts Hepatitis C in the spotlight
Jazzy de Lisser's film about living with the debilitating illness Hepatitis C has won the of the Mediabox, Daily Mirror and Bebo YourFilm09 competition. Launched in December last year, the competition aimed to find young film-makers to make a documentary about something important in their lives. Ten young people were selected to take part in special filmmaking workshops with the support of BAFTA mentors to transform their ideas into films.
Jazzy, who was told she suffered from Hepatitis C at the age of 13, decided to turn a video diary into her short film My Story of C, which captures the highs and lows of her treatment - from promising test results, lying in bed in agony, to blazing rows with her mum.
"I'd never met anyone my age going through this and thought I could show people what it's like," she says.
Her winning film was showcased on the Mirror website and broadcast on Community Channel in a one-hour special showing all of the finalists of YourFilm09.
