Channel 4 and Community Channel screen new short films made by young people
Today a series of inspirational films written and created by young people are being broadcast on Channel 4 and Community Channel. The films are the result of the "2008 Mediabox/Channel 4 filmmaking competition", which gave disadvantaged 13 -19 year olds the opportunity to write, direct and produce their own short documentaries.
This innovative competition, launched in July 08, asked young people to write a short synopsis of their idea for a film, inspired by an issue they were passionate about. Hundreds of young people entered the competition, the finalists were selected and assigned a film industry mentor to guide them through the filmmaking process. The young people and their mentors also attended an intensive practical filmmaking workshop at Channel 4.
This years films include Conditions by Jordon Rolfe, which looks at how beatboxing and drumming help him to cope with Tourettes and Sarah Coupe's film It's My Life providing an insight into life on a cocktail of medicines.
